The Committee on House Administration of the U.S. Congress today held hearings on verification, security, and paper trails for electronic voting machines. An archived copy of the webcast from that hearing, along with the written testimony submitted by the witnesses, is currently available on the Committee's website, but it might not remain there on a permanent basis.

Verified Voting thanks the Committee's Chairman, Rep. Vernon Ehlers, for organizing today's hearing, for conducting it in a fair and constructive manner, and for extending to Rep. Rush Holt (the author of H.R. 550) the courtesy of joining with the Committee in questioning the witnesses.

  • "The core of our American democracy is the right to vote. Implicit in that right is the notion that that vote be private, that vote be secure, and that vote be counted as it was intended when it was cast by the voter. And I think what we're encountering is a pivotal moment in our democracy where all of that is being called into question." (more here)
